Potters Update

Well they got hammered in the OVAC semis by Wheeling Park 83-33.  It was a point game after 8 minutes but then the Patriots won the 2nd quarter 27-3 to blow the doors at the Palace on the Hill wide open.  East Liverpool will look to rebound against Steubenville Big Red . . . both Friday on the road in the OVAC consolation game and then again next Tuesday at 8pm in the opening round of the Sectionals at OU Eastern outside St. Clairsville.  If the Potters win that first round tourney game they would play again Saturday the 27th, again at 8pm, against Harrison Central in what would essentially be a District Quarterfinal.  Advancing from there would be a District Semifinal Saturday March 6th, a District Final Thursday March 11th, a Regional Semifinal in Athens Thursday March 18th.  The Regional Final would be Saturday March 20th, the State Semifinal Thursday March 25th and the State Final Saturday March 27th.  At some point here I was quite likely unduly optimistic for a 7-9 team, but that is the theoretical path.

By the way, there are still no reschedule dates for the regular season games at Steubenville and Martins Ferry nor the home game with Youngstown Christian.  Given drawing Steubenville in OVACs and Sectionals I strongly doubt that game gets played.  There is room now for either Martins Ferry or Christian this Saturday if both schools want to shoehorn at the last minute.  But having two games the first two weeks of Sectionals I’m kinda doubting anything gets made up.  I guess there is a dead spot around Tuesday March 2nd if it fit for other teams, but I’m not necessarily a big fan of playing regular season games in the middle of the tournament as opposed to prepping for the next game or as an emotionally flat game after being eliminated.  So I suspect Mother Nature dealt the Potters a 17 game regular season.
