Potters Get in Win Column

By beating Martins Ferry 83-76 at Potter Fieldhouse. Jason Dickey was saddled all night with fouls and only got 10 points, but he was picked up by Marky Tompkins who got I believe 34 to lead all scorers. More importantly, the rest of the team played much better than when this observer saw them at home against Youngstown East two weeks ago. There were still too many turnovers the last 4 minutes of the game nursing a lead that had been in the mid-teens and was shaved by Ferry down to 80-76 at one point in the last few seconds, but I left the Fieldhouse more encouraged that two weeks ago. Getting Willie Leavell back helped, but guys like Andrew English, Travis White, etc played much more steady, handled the ball, and knocked down open shots. I still strongly doubt I saw a state champion on the floor, but I am more encouraged.

Next up for the Potters is their Holiday Classic on Monday the 28th and Tuesday the 29th. The first night’s semifinals will see Hookstown (PA) South Side against Youngstown Ursuline followed by Beaver Local v East Liverpool in the nightcap. The 2nd night will of course be a consolation game and a championship game.
