Lady Falcons Handle Youngstown State

73-45 was the final score at YSU’s Beeghly Center. Kids 12 and under got in for free and I believe some area schools made a field trip of it, hence the 11am start time. The Falcons did seem a bit sluggish early after a fast break layup on the opening tip gave them a lead they would never relinquish 3 seconds into the contest, but it was still only 5-2 at the first media timeout. A spurt out of that break gave BG a lead in the 5-8 point range that they held for awhile before a surge late in the first half gave them a more comfortable 17 point lead at halftime, and YSU was never able to make inroads after that. It was a balanced attack with most of the roster getting appreciable minutes. Lauren Prochaska was held in check in the 1st half but she did get some scores in the 2nd frame. Tracy Prontius never had to get going behind the arc but she got several breakaway baskets off of clean steals, as she was frankly too quick for the Penguins guards. Breske and Nurse both contributed as did a number of other players as Curt Miller, like I said, used this pre-Christmas contest to get players rest and work respectively.

I feel confident that I didn’t see BG’s best effort this morning, and it wasn’t needed. I know they can light up better from the perimeter. They did concede more baskets inside 8 feet, especially in the 1st half, than I would like to see. Of course they have time to work on that between now and early March.
