Banking Practices

I know this probably won’t come as a shock to most of you, but banks seem to be good at making a lot of money off of overdraft fees:

Of course a lot of this could be avoided if consumers were careful at not letting their account ever be below $0; don’t spend ahead of a deposit playing the how fast will it clear game and verify how much the deposit was before spending.  But I would also very much not mind it if banks were required to clear deposits that day ahead of debits that day, and clear deposits in a low to high fashion so the one large check overdrafts and not the half dozen small debit card purchases individually.
