Still Better Than Milli Vanilli

It turns out that the All-Star quartet that played “Air & Simple Gifts” by John Williams at the Inaugural had actually taped the piece 2 days ahead of time and were merely playing along to the recording, due to the cold weather:

I had actually noticed the earpiece Yo Yo Ma was wearing during the performance and wondered why he was wearing one; listening to a playback was the only logical explanation I could think of.  But I really didn’t give it much thought in the front of my brain and quickly forgot about it.  Its not something I’m going to get worked up about.  What we all heard Tuesday was still a beautiful piece of music, and it was still the likes of Yo Yo Ma and Yitzak Pearlman performing it.  It just wasn’t 100% live.  That’s fine by me.
