Familiar Faces Poised to Head CIA, Surgeon General’s Office

President-elect Obama has tapped former Clinton Chief of Staff Leon Panetta to head the Central Intelligence Agency in a move that took some by surprise given a lack of experience in intelligence matters by Mr. Panetta.  However, he has a solid reputation as an administrator and his nomination should have fairly smooth sailing after some misgivings from Senate Intelligence Committee Chair Diane Feinstein were apparently smoothed over.

It is not official yet, but all indications are that Obama plans to name CNN medical correspondent Sanjay Gupta to be Surgeon General.  An accomplished neurosurgeon, and very camera friendly, Gupta figures to be the most visible advocate for public health since C. Everett Koop in the Reagan years.  It sounds like a very solid pick to me.
