Senate Democrats to Slow-Walk Burris Appointment

Apparently the plan is to object to Senator-designate Roland Burris’ credentials when it comes time to swear in new members when the new Congress convenes next Tuesday.  His credentials would then be reviewed by the Rules Committee, which can take up to 90 days to take action.  In the meantime, maybe Blagojevich gets impeached and convicted in the Illinois Legislature and the next Governor would retract the Burris appointment in favor of someone else:

As I blogged the other day, I don’t like this at all.  I think the Senate should just swallow and accept Burris as a duly named Senator in the abscense of information tying him to the pay-to-play accusations.  Trying to block him from taking the seat sets a dangerous precedent and denies Illinois of a full voice in Congress.
