John Madden to Sit This Sunday Out

The Madden Cruiser will not be stopping at Raymond James Stadium this coming Sunday Night for the game between Seattle and Tampa.  The ESPN crawl reports that Madden did not want to make a 3rd straight cross country drive, preferring to stay home in California.  He had a 473 consecutive games broadcast streak that will come to an end.  Frankly, it solidifies a hunch I have had for awhile now; that the 71 year old Madden will hang up the microphone after this February’s Super Bowl, which he and Al Michaels will have on NBC.  Brett Favre might outlast him, too.

Pretty sad if the only reason is that he just didn’t feel like it. Many folks just don’t feel like getting up at the crack of dawn to go to work either, but they do and most definately they’re not getting a salary like his. Suck it up or quit. What about breach of contract?

I assume NBC approved the night off for Madden. Most people are entitled to vacation days, after all.
