Forget JEDD

At least the proposed Joint Economic Development District between the City of East Liverpool and Liverpool Township for some land off of Parkway:

Liverpool Township Trustee Karl Kontnier seems rather irked by this development, and I can see his point of view.  But I agree with City Council, as much as I hate to because I believe strongly in local governmental entities pulling together for the common good.  But, the 99 year no annexation provision was a poison pill that would’ve put the city in a vice grip.  If it were just a 99 year no annexation for the land in the JEDD, that would be one thing.  But the city unilaterally giving away the ability to annex any land in Liverpool Township for basically an entire century?  I don’t think so.  It sucks the Township never responded to the city’s counterproposal, as this project will now likely spiral down a predictable path.  The township will fight the annexation, the Bosco family will probably have their reservations, it’ll get fought out in courts, and in the meantime the original will and business opportunities for the land in the JEDD will disappear and everyone will be nowhere.  Hopefully the township comes to its senses, agrees to soften on the annexation provision, and a JEDD agreeable to the city can come to fruition.  Because bringing jobs and development to the area is sorely needed.
