Because the ratings have improved with Steigerwald in the booth??? Have the people at FSN Pittsburgh gone that far ’round the bend that they need to be put in a padded room somewhere heavily sedated? Improved ratings???!!!??? The ratings soared the past two seasons because the Penguins made the conversion from a team that sucked its own ass to one that made the Stanley Cup Finals, and did so with a bevy of new and excited stars led by Sidney Crosby. I can assure FSN the ratings bump had nothing to do with Steigerwald. Indeed, at the risk of being harsh, the ratings soared IN SPITE OF Steigerwald, a man who exemplifies mediocrity in broadcasting. Tune into a Pens game, I’m sure you’ll hear something moronic fall out of his mouth fairly quickly. Mike Lange is a Pittsburgh treasure revered on the same level Myron Cope ever was. You say “Penguins” to a Pittsburgher and they likely think of Lange before anyone except Lemieux. Indeed, you raise the concept of Pittsburgh to a PIttsburgher and Mike Lange comes up about as quickly as “Steelers” and “Primanti Brothers” does. Improved ratings???!!!??? All I can figure is that Fox Sports Pittsburgh is run by the same executive that thought New Coke was a good idea.
