Not if President Bush and German Chancellor Angela Merkel have their way:
I have little doubt that what is going on here is the Bush Administration is trying to deny the Obama campaign a tidy little photo op, and Merkel is currying favor by being in lockstep with them. Only heads of state get to speak at Brandenburg? Who decided that rule? I tend to think that rule would suddenly not exist again if John McCain made a visit to Berlin in the next few months. Oh well. I also rather doubt this “incident” will have any ultimate bearing on the US Presidential election or have any impact on US-German relations. Tempest in a teapot, which our Presidential elections tend to have a lot of right before the conventions.
