Slipping Away for the Pirates

By buckeyenewshawk

Pittsburgh’s baseball team was coming dangerously close to the .500 mark at several points the past three weeks or so.  A 1-5 start to interleague including a blown save loss in Baltimore and a sweep at the hands of the White Sox later and .500 is starting to look rather elusive again.  Quite simply the Pirates pitching blows chunks right now.  Its not usually as bad as it was against the Pale Hose (37 runs against in 3 games), but its rarely good, especially the starting rotation.  The lone real bright spot had been Matt Capps, but the Pirates closer has blown 3 of his last 6 save opportunities.  Things are starting to slip away again.  Still a chance to recover, though, if they can do well in this upcoming 9 game interleague homestand with the Blue Jays, Yankees, and Rays.  A real limit to how far they can go unless some guys learn how to pitch, and pronto, though.
